Mötley Crüe: The Dirt Declassified — 40th Anniversary Graphic Novel

Role: Design direction, cover and interior design, and deluxe packaging design

This deluxe edition was designed to resemble a classified military file recovered from storage, complete with aged materials, worn surfaces, and stamped documents. The clamshell box, interior pages, and supplemental pieces all contribute to a consistent in-world experience.

Project Responsibilities:

• Clamshell Design: I created the clamshell box by compositing photographs of real military wood crates. I combined different textures and angles to construct the box, digitally added a matching latch, and weathered the finished image to make it look like a physical object that had aged in storage. I also designed the title treatment using military stencils as a reference, then distressed it to resemble spray-painted lettering worn over time. In addition, I designed the spine and back cover layout for the book.

• Interior Design: I designed the interior pages and endpapers. I sourced aged paper textures and referenced historical CIA and FBI documents for the typography, stamps, ink treatments, and overall structure of the files. The pages were designed to feel like actual declassified documents pulled from an archive.

• Extras: I designed the Mötley Crüe security clearance badges and contributed to the layout and visual treatment of the dossier-style art prints included with the deluxe edition.
